AUGUST WAS THE BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR REGARDING SOLAR ENERGY PRODUCTION
According to the latest electricity report from the Energy Observatory, renewable electricity generation represented 58.2% of the total electricity produced in Portugal during the month of August.
As would be expected, among the renewable energies, wind energy production stands out with 23.1%. On the other hand, solar photovoltaic energy production contributed around 7.1% of the total electricity production, this being the highest contribution of the year so far.
Still, and despite this good result, João Galamba admits that there is an “underdevelopment of solar photovoltaic in Portugal”. For the Secretary of State for Energy, despite Portugal “being the country with one of the greatest potentials, the current solar installed capacity is quite low in percentage terms in the energy mix in Portugal when compared to other European countries”.
