WIND ENERGY COULD BE THE BACKBONE OF THE EUROPEAN ENERGY SYSTEM

According to data published by WindEurope, 16% of the electricity produced in Europe comes from wind energy and, in many countries, this figure is even higher – like Portugal, where this figure rises to 24%.

But the goal is to further increase these numbers, the International Energy Agency expects that by 2027 wind energy will be the main source of electricity in Europe. On the other hand, the European Commission’s main goal is for the wind to be responsible for the production of half the electricity in Europe by 2050, with wind energy capacity increasing from the current 220 GW to 1,300 GW.
