Acoustic Emission Screening
Acoustic Emission technology allows the inspection of large areas, in a non-intrusive way, in a wide variety of equipment and structures.
In difficult to access situations the sensors are applied by specialists in rope access work avoiding the placement of scaffolding or the use of lifting equipment.
In the case of isolated or buried equipment and structures this technique also presents significant advantages over traditional inspection methods.
This technology consists in the phenomenon of high frequency sound wave radiation, in materials that undergo deformation or fracture processes. This test is suitable for the discontinuities’ dynamic behavior analysis, present in structures.
Structures with flaws contain areas of concentration of tensions that once stimulated, initiate the redistribution of located tensions. Therefore, the propagation of discontinuities in solid materials subject to charge results in a rapid release of energy in the form of sound vibrations. The waves emitted by the active discontinuities propagate in the structure of the material and can be picked up by piezoelectric sensors.
